eJobs & Professional Development

APSA eJobs is the most comprehensive database of jobs related to political science, accessible to members. The eJobs platform is updated daily with new job listings and candidate resumes, and is fully searchable by field of interest, employer or candidate name, region, keyword, position, salary, institution type, and most recent postings. APSA departmental members have access to post and view job listings on our eJobs site as a part of their departmental membership. As a benefit of departmental membership, departmental members may search for and post job listings as well as view and search candidate CVs.

For Job Seekers
All job seekers can access eJobs; however, APSA members enjoy unique benefits including access to the full content of job listings. Non-member job candidates have limited access to eJobs. They can search the job listings and view titles, but cannot view the contents nor post CVs. Learn more about accessing eJobs as a non-member.

For Employers
APSA eJobs provides year-round, online publicity for political science employment opportunities to more than 11,000 APSA members and job candidates. All interested employers can post positions; however, the costs and benefits differ for members and non-members.
Departmental members of APSA can place an unlimited number of job posts for no additional charge. Departments and institutions that are not APSA members may post a job for $300 for the initial one-month job posting, and then $150 for each additional month.

Professional Development Resources
Professional development in political science involves educating and training students and faculty on career skills and strategies. The purpose of this training is to enhance knowledge, preparation, performance, and advancement in both academic and non-academic spheres. The APSA professional development program coordinates a series of initiatives aimed at promoting professional development for all those engaged in the discipline of political science.

3 Reasons Why You Should Read the APSA eJobs Report if You Care about the Job Market

APSA Research analyzed job postings’ data from eJobs for the six-month period from July 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018. Here is what we found.

Why You Should Pay More Attention to the Benefits in your Job Offer

Salaries for newly hired faculty varied by type of position offered with the highest salaries offered to tenured faculty, followed by tenure track, then non-tenure-track faculty.  The 2017-2018 APSA Departmental Survey asked chairs of departments offering degrees and courses in Political Science and Government to report average salaries for their newly hired faculty by rank in the department. The full report can be found here.

2021-2022 APSA eJobs Report: Political Science and the Job Market

In 2021-2022, no significant correction occurred regarding the number of job openings to pre-pandemic job market levels. Since 2018-2019, the number of postings has declined, a trend carrying across months, geographic locations, subfields, and position ranks. Job postings decreased in nearly every US region, with the largest declines observed in the Northeast and the Midwest. Along with the Western region, these regions also contain the most jobs. Increased breadth/ diversity of the subfields designated in job postings could indicate employers are trying to capture more candidates with broader job descriptions in a tighter labor market. However, this may result in confusion or inefficiencies (failed and repeated years-long searches). As in other STEM fields, it is prudent for recent graduates with doctoral degrees in political science to broaden their transferable skills and widen their career outlooks beyond academic jobs simply because there are not enough academic positions for PhDs earned.
