APSA Diversity and Inclusion Advancing Research Grants

The APSA Diversity and Inclusion Advancing Research Grants provide support for research that examines political science phenomenon affecting underserved communities and underrepresented groups. The new grants will complement APSA’s existing diversity and inclusion fellowships and grants—namely the APSA Diversity Fellowship Program, the Lee Ann Fujii APSA Diversity Fellowship Travel Grant, and the Fund For Latino Scholarship—providing additional research funding opportunities for scholars at multiple points in their professional careers.

  

Advancing Research Grants – Early Career Scholars

The application cycle for the 2023 Diversity and Inclusion Advancing Research Grants – Early Career Scholars is now closed. 

The next application cycle will open April 1, 2024.

 The APSA Diversity and Inclusion Advancing Research Grant for Early Career Scholars supports the advancement of research goals and professional development of early career political science scholars. The grant will award scholars whose research areas focus on one or more of the following target research areas.


Target Research Areas: Grants will be awarded to support innovative political science research projects that seek to advance our knowledge and understanding of:

  • race, ethnicity and politics
  • racial and social justice
  • systemic racism, inequality and inequity
  • gender, sexuality and politics
  • LGBTQ+ politics
  • accessibility politics

Qualitative, quantitative, interpretive, mixed methodological, political philosophy, and theory approaches are welcome. Applications that include collaboratively-authored projects are welcome.

The application cycle for the 2023 Diversity and Inclusion Advancing Research Grants – Indigenous Politics is now closed. Recipients will be announced in early December. 


The APSA Diversity and Inclusion Advancing Research Grant for Indigenous Politics supports the advancement of research goals and professional development of political science scholars and practitioners in Indigenous Politics. The grant will award scholars whose research areas focus on one or more of the following target research areas.


Target Research Areas: Grants will be awarded to support innovative political science research projects that seek to advance our knowledge and understanding of:

  • Indigenous Studies
  • Indigenous Political Science
  • Sovereignty
  • Tribal Governance
  • Native Studies 

Qualitative, quantitative, interpretive, mixed methodological, political philosophy, and theory approaches are welcome. Additionally, applications that include collaboratively-authored projects are welcome.
