Generation to Generation Initiative

The Generation to Generation Initiative seeks to foster diversity and inclusion in the discipline by ensuring the continuity of the APSA Ralph Bunche Summer Institute (RBSI), an annual, intensive five-week program that that introduces students from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups to political science careers and graduate study and to encourage application to PhD programs.

Each summer, the Institute delivers graduate-level coursework in research methodology, and racial and ethnic politics, and the opportunity for 15 - 20 rising college seniors to learn and form long-lasting connections with peers. With thanks to the generosity of grateful RBSI alumni, members of the political science community, and other sources of support, we are within 20 percent of reaching our $2.5 million fundraising goal to sustain the RBSI and additional programming for generations of students who will contribute a diverse collection of innovative ideas and approaches to the political science community, as well as other academic and professional fields.

As the world’s largest scholarly association for political science, APSA brings together scholars from all fields of inquiry, institutions, and regions to deepen our understanding of politics, democracy, and citizenship throughout the world. APSA has an important commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in the discipline, and we are grateful for the generous contributions we have received in support of the Generation to Generation Initiative, which enables us to continue that commitment.
