Call of Nominations for the Women’s Caucus for Political Science  Awards

1.  Women of Color: Professional Accomplishment Recognition Award Nominations

The Women of Color: Professional Accomplishment Recognition Award Award is designed to honor women political scientists who have exemplified the role of public intellectual in their scholarship and in their public service. Women of color span multiple communities and we seek to honor women who have provided leadership which breaks barriers and opens doors to build a broader and more inclusive community. We particularly seek nominees whose contributions to the academy and to their communities as well as to the larger public make a contribution in bridging the research-practice gap. Nominees can have a research specialization in any field, and the PhD can be in any related field to political science (e.g., public administration, urban planning, international relations, etc.). The purpose of the award is to acknowledge the special nature of leadership among women of color - women who have consistently demonstrated their ability to go beyond narrow subfield specialization to provide insight into the great questions of the day in ways that advance the agenda of women and particularly women of color as race and ethnicity are undergoing redefinition in the United States and globally. Relevant nomination factors might include institutional, research, mentoring, teaching and public intellectual activities (ranging from advocacy, participation in a national academy, public office, community service) as well as other activities which demonstrate contributions to public understanding of the interplay of family and community and culture in the lives of women of color. The Committee is also open to receiving nominations that reflect changing understandings of what it means to be a woman of color generationally in diverse communities of color. Please send a nomination including how this nominee fulfills the vision of this award via email to Valerie Martinez Ebers at valmartinez@unt.edu. Please send by July 15th for complete consideration.

2. Call for Nominations: WCPS Mentoring Award

In accordance with the mission of the Women's Caucus for Political  Science, especially the promotion of equal opportunities for women  political scientists and the enhancement of the study of issues related  to gender justice, we are seeking nominations for professors,
instructors, and independent researchers who have provided a)  outstanding mentoring for women political scientists on a one-on-one  basis; and/or b) outstanding administrative leadership resulting in the  enhanced treatment of research relating to gender justice research in
the profession. We welcome all submissions under these very broadly  defined rubrics. We are particularly interested in receiving nominations  for professors, instructors, and independent researchers who have contributed to: the mentoring of women of color and/or the enhancement
of the profile of intersectional research in the profession. To nominate an individual, please send an e-mail message to: Anna Marie Smith at ams3@cornell.edu by July 15, 2008, and please include a two or three paragraph comment in support of your nomination.
