Mu Sigma Chapter, University of Central Florida
Example of Winning Chapter Activity Grant Proposal

 Dear Chapter Awards Committee:

The Mu Sigma chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha (PSA) is proposing a poster session at the annual meeting of the Florida Political Science Association (FPSA) displaying the benefits of an active PSA chapter. The poster boards will display literature from the national organization as well as our own chapter's collection of photos from the banquets, debates, meetings, trips, and various events we have held over the past few years. A color handout containing some contact information for all Florida chapters as well as programming ideas will be available for interested faculty and students. Additionally, we will award, during the poster session, fifty dollars to the best paper delivered in each of the three graduate student panels, as determined by the panel discussant.

Our involvement with the FPSA meeting last year, while successful in gathering several students from various chapters in Florida, was lacking in its ability to reach the mass of faculty and students present at the reception. The pre-banquet poster session provided the perfect opportunity for positive interaction with the most dedicated members of Florida's political science departments and provides a continuing PSA presence at he meeting. Our colorful display, handouts, lapel pins, and particularly the presentation of our cash awards to the graduate student paper winners are sure to create a lasting impression and promote the advantages an organized chapter can bring to any department.

AGENDA
The 2000 annual meeting of the FPSA will take place on Friday, April 7, in Miami, Florida. As part of the event, our chapter will present a PSA exhibit during the poster session and reception. Four PSA members, both graduate and undergraduate, will be present to discuss chapter activities and promote awareness of national programs. Following the session, the four student members will participate in the FPSA dinner and the PSA lecture. Hotel accommodations, transportation to the meeting, and partial cost of the banquet attendance will be provided for the four participants.

BUDGET
Anticipated costs are as follows:

Hotel accommodations-$80.00 est. x 2 rooms $160.00 est.
FPSA Banquet dinner-$10.00 x 4 members $40.00
Transportation-1 rental care x 2 days + gas $120.00 est.
Prize money-$50.00 x 3 awards $150.00
Poster Displays $40.00 est.
Handouts $80.00 est.
PSA lapel pins for faculty attendees-$2.00 x 25 $50.00
Total cost: $640.00

REQUEST FOR FUNDING
If funded, this proposal will provide a forum of interaction for PSA members and prospective members from around the state to learn about the advantages of one of the largest honor societies in the country. This will also mark the second year of PSA chapter involvement with the annual meeting; establishing a continuing presence and proving our serious commitment to involvement in political science in Florida. To complete this project, the Mu Sigma chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha at the University of Central Florida requests $640.00 from the Chapter Awards Committee in the proposal category Society Affairs.
