The National Office sponsors an annual program of grants to chapters for special activities. Proposals are accepted through October 31 of each year, the awards committee meets in November, and grants are awarded immediately thereafter.
This has been a highly successful program for over 30 years. It provides the means for chapters to put together projects with a broader scope than they otherwise could afford, and gives students excellent experience in writing proposals and budgets, carrying out funded activities, and writing reports.
The current budget for this program is $90,000. The maximum grant award for a chapter is $2,000.
One of the great benefits of this program is the practice it gives students in proposal-writing. A good proposal will clearly describe the exact nature and scope of the proposed activity and will be concisely written with no unnecessary verbiage or other information. It will have a complete and realistic budget which follows the guidelines specified in the program announcement. And finally, the proposed activity will be worthwhile, feasible, and compatible with the purposes of PSA.
Winners of the grants are required to report on the activity, including an accounting of the expenditure of the grant funds, before the end of the Society's Fiscal Year. See Grant Report Checklist for details.
