2003 Survey of Academic & Degree and Programs in Human Rights

This survey was prepared by Micheline Ishay and Chris Saeger, under the auspices of the Human Rights Section of the American Political Science Association, and with support of the Graduate School of International Studies.

This survey of human rights programs, concentrations and foci has been conducted for the purpose of informing interested students, scholars and activists. Generally located at universities, the academic human rights programs listed below emphasize both academic and professional training. Since many of these programs are relatively new, we encourage prospective students to seek more detailed information from schools of interest. Those programs that wish to be included in this survey should send a description of their curriculum following the format presented below. Please note that MA or graduate programs in human rights offered outside the United States may require less coursework and may not be accredited in the same way as in the United States.
