February 2-4, 2018 | Baltimore, Maryland | Sheraton Inner Harbor Hotel
Theme: "Teaching Politics as a Public Good: Citizenship and Civic Engagement in the Classroom"

The Teaching & Learning Conference will take place in Baltimore, MD on February 2-4, 2018.

Please join us for a unique conference, which provides a highly interactive forum for scholars to share research and innovative tools for political science education. The conference focuses on promoting the scholarship of teaching and learning, equipping faculty with new techniques and resources for teaching, and enhancing the role of teaching in the discipline of political science. This year’s conference theme focuses on the public value of teaching political science and how studying politics can help students build tools for citizenship and civic discourse.

Proposals are due September 24, 2017. Submit a proposal today!

Call for Proposals

Proposals may be on any topic related to political science education, including pedagogy, innovative methods and techniques, assessment, experiential learning, simulations, curriculum development, mentoring, career preparation, and more. We invite proposals from all educators who teach political science and related subjects—university and college faculty, administrators, high school teachers, graduate students, research scholars, and others.

There are two formats options for the 2018 Teaching and Learning Conference: paper presentations and workshops. All papers are presented in a collaborative environment, with materials shared in advance and participants serving as discussants for each other’s work. Some papers will be part of a larger working group track; others will be independent of any particular track theme and organized into panels or roundtable discussions.

Workshops are designed to be highly interactive and provide hands-on experience, demonstrating a learning tool or technique which participants could immediately implement in the classroom. Examples of workshops at previous Teaching and Learning Conferences include: using mapping software to teach students how to visualize political information, creating campus-wide civic engagement initiatives, using in-class debate to enhance student learning, and techniques for how to discuss difficult issues in the classroom.

Proposals are due September 24, 2017. Submit a proposal today!
