Applying for Graduate School

Asking the right questions when you meet with prospective departments is critical to choosing the right graduate program for you.  APSA has created a list of questions and has encouraged departments to be willing to answer these questions.  You can find a list of participating institutions at Institutions that Grant a Ph.D. in Political Science.

Other Resources 

Graduate Student Conflict Studies Conference: The New Generation of Ideas Dates: October 31-November 1, 2008; Proposal Deadline: May 19, 2008;
Location:  Boston, MA
This conference is an opportunity for graduate students who are studying conflict in diverse contexts and disciplines to come together and share their research and ideas. In addition to showcasing graduate student papers, the conference will feature keynote addresses by noted scholars and practitioners, skill building workshops, and opportunities to network with practitioners, scholars and fellow students.

Model Congress Registration Open The U.S. Model House of Representatives is a four-day intensive program that convenes in the halls of Congress for students over the age of 18; graduate students are encouraged to apply.

Hamilton Project Economic Policy Innovation Prize 2008 The Hamilton Project (Brookings Institution), announces its 2nd annual Economic Policy Innovation Prize competition. $25,000 in prizes will be awarded for the best innovative policy proposals written by undergraduate and graduate students.  The top graduate student  proposal will be awarded $15,000. Application deadline is August 1.

Canadian Studies Conference: Graduate students and junior faculty members with a research interest in any aspect of Canadian politics are invited to present their academic papers at the 2008 Middle Atlantic & New England Council for Canadian Studies and Southern Association for Canadian Studies  Joint Conference, October 2–5, 2008, in Washington, DC. To help offset conference participants’ travel costs, MANECCS has established the Young Scholars Grant Program.

Summer Institute in Political Psychology  Stanford University will host the 2008 Summer Institute in Political Psychology (SIPP) from July 13 to August 2, 2008.  Directed by Stanford Professor Jon Krosnick, SIPP is a 3-week intensive training program introducing graduate students and professionals to the world of political psychology scholarship.
