Preparing Social Science and Humanities Faculty Program Ric Weibl, PFF Program Manager
The Preparing Future Faculty Program recently announced the
departments and institutions selected to participate in the Preparing
Future Social Science and Humanities Faculty Program.
The project addresses the doctoral preparation of future faculty in
the social sciences and the humanities. It brings universities--the
"producers" --and the colleges--the "consumers"--into partnerships to
offer preparation that is more in line with the missions of
undergraduate colleges and the characteristics of their students.
Doctoral degree-granting departments, partnering with a cluster of
similar academic departments in a wide range of institutions, will
offer graduate students a laboratory to learn about future faculty
responsibilities.
In this highly collaborative project, CGS and AAC&U is
coordinating the work of six social science and humanities disciplines.
The disciplines are represented by their professional societies: the
American Historical Association, the American Political Science
Association, the American Psychological Association, American
Sociological Association, the National Communication Association, and
the National Council of Teachers of English.
Leadership teams from each societies have now selected the departments who Preparing Social Science and Humanities Faculty Program will receive grants to create over a 2-year period innovative programs based on Preparing Future Faculty concepts.
