The Section on Human Rights was established to encourage scholarship and facilitate exchange of data and research findings on all components of human rights (e.g., civil, political, economic, social, cultural, environmental), their relationship, determinants and consequences of human rights policies, structure and influence of human rights organizations, development, implementation, impact on international conventions, and changes in the international human rights regime.

Awards
The Best Book Award is given for the best single-authored, multi-authored or edited volume on human rights published in 2007. To be considered for the award, a copy of the book must be sent to each of the four committee members listed below by March 31, 2008.

Best Dissertation Award Political Science dissertations that focus on human rights and were filed in academic years of 2006 - 2007, are eligible for the award competition. Copies of the nominated dissertation and a letter of support, from the dissertation Chair, which specify the contribution of the work in the field of human rights should be received by each Committee Member of the Dissertation Award Committee by February 29, 2008. No email submissions will be accepted and the dissertation and accompanying letter should be sent by the Dissertation Chair to each of the members of the committee.

Distinguished Scholar Award The Distinguished Scholar award is intended to recognize someone who has worked in the field of Human Rights and made a exceptional contribution to the field through research, teaching and mentorship. Nomination should include a short justification and the nominee's CV. Nominations can be submitted electronically by June 30, 2008.
