Awards
Joseph Kruzel Memorial Award for Public Service
Awarded to a scholar who has been active in national security affairs both as an academic and a public servant. Nominations were sent to Gale A. Mattox at mattox@usna.edu by February 1, 2008. These included a one page bio of the nominees' qualifications and achievements in the areas of academia and public service in the field of national security and contact information for the nominee.
The Kenneth N. Waltz Dissertation Award
Awarded to a successfully defended doctoral dissertation on any aspect of security studies, which has been submitted in final, library copy in calendar year 2007.
The committee welcomed nominations for dissertations employing any approach (historical, quantitative, theoretical, policy analysis, etc.) to any topic in the field of security studies. Manuscripts were judged according to (1) originality in substance and approach; (2) significance for scholarly or policy debate; (3) rigor in approach and analysis; and (4) power of expression.
Nominations comprised of an electronic copy of the dissertation, a summary statement of no more than 1,000 words from the student, and a brief supporting statement of no more than 500 words from the supervisor were submitted by April 30, 2008 to the committee chair: Andrew.dorman@kcl.ac.uk.
