PRE-COLLEGE TEACHING NEWS ITEMS

The 100% Registration Project
Website: http://www.fairvote.org/?page=1543
The overall goal of the 100% Registration Project is to create a voter registration system under which the government shares responsibility for registration with its citizens to ensure clean and complete voter rolls. Having 100% registration will address the remarkably low 72% rate of registration among eligible voters, significantly reduce duplications and omissions in the voter rolls and help create a system that balances the concerns of election accessibility and voter fraud.

The first major proposal in this project is a high school voter registration program that seeks to register all students before they leave high school and educate them on the voting process in their community. High school registration will not only lead to cleaner and more complete voter rolls, but also has the potential to increase youth political participation.

Innovation in Advanced Placement Teaching
Many high school graduates entering college arrive with college credit for  Advanced Placement test in American Government and/or Comparative Government.  ETS data report that many students who take the AP course in Government or Comparative Politics go on to take additional courses at the college level.  Read about an innovative class designed by one AP Government teacher in Virginia.
