Theoretical Perspectives on Social Cohesion and Social Capital Social Cohesion Indicators Network Date: May 15, 2008 Conference is organized by the Social Cohesion Indicators network, a joint research project of the Political Science Departments of Leuven (Marc Hooghe) and McGill University (Dietlind Stolle), and the Social Policy Research Unit in Antwerp (Bea Cantillon), Criminology in Ghent (Paul Ponsaers) and Economics in Brussel (Bruno Heyndels). The aim of the project is to develop comprehensive social cohesion indicators, that are theoretically founded, but that can be used to monitor policy progress. We invite scholars and policy makers to participate in this conference. The aim of this conference is to bring together various perspectives on the study of social capital and social cohesion. A special focus of the conference is the relation between (cultural) diversity and indicators of social capital and social cohesion. Attention will also be devoted to policy efforts to monitor the evolution of social capital and social cohesion, both in America as in Europe. Both theoretical and more policy-oriented papers are welcome, while self-evidently, various academic disciplines are invited to join. |
