Congress in the Classroom is a national, award-winning education program now in its 16th year. Developed and sponsored by The Dirksen Congressional Center, the workshop is dedicated to the exchange of ideas and information on teaching about Congress. The Center will join with the new Institute for Principled Leadership in Public Service in conducting the workshop.
Congress in the Classroom is designed for high school or middle school teachers who teach U.S. history, government, civics, political science, or social studies. Forty teachers will be selected in 2008 to take part in the program. Selection will be determined by The Center. Online applications must be received by no later than April 15, 2008.
National Archives: Primarily Teaching This workshop provides a varied program of lectures, demonstrations, analysis of documents, independent research, and group work that introduces teachers to the holdings and organization of the National Archives. Various dates in July and August.
Call for Papers: International Journal of Organizational Analysis: Special Issue of the Shaping Our Unscripted Future with Service-Learning; The goal of this special issue is to provide IJOA readers, as well as service-learning authors and practitioners, with an overview of the application and outcomes of service-learning as a teaching tool in today's rapidly changing environment. Deadline for submissions is September 26, 2008

Graduate Student Conflict Studies Conference: The New Generation of Ideas Dates: October 31-November 1, 2008; Proposal Deadline: May 19, 2008; Location: Boston, MA This conference is an opportunity for graduate students who are studying conflict in diverse contexts and disciplines to come together and share their research and ideas. In addition to showcasing graduate student papers, the conference will feature keynote addresses by noted scholars and practitioners, skill building workshops, and opportunities to network with practitioners, scholars and fellow students.
U.S. Model Congress Program The U.S. Model Congress program educates college students from across the nation in the Halls of Congress. Participants are educated in House of Representatives procedures, bringing valuable classroom teachings to life. Sessions are held in Congressional Committee Rooms and Chambers on Capitol Hill and are led by individuals with expertise and experience in House procedure. Former Members of Congress, the Congressional Research Service, professors from around the nation, and House staff lead students in the simulation, contributing to an in-depth and valuable education. Canadian Studies Conference: Graduate students and junior faculty members with a research interest in any aspect of Canadian politics are invited to present their academic papers at the 2008 Middle Atlantic & New England Council for Canadian Studies and Southern Association for Canadian Studies Joint Conference, October 2–5, 2008, in Washington, DC. To help offset conference participants’ travel costs, MANECCS has established the Young Scholars Grant Program.

Hamilton Economic Policy Innovation Prize 2008 The Hamilton Project, an initiative of the Brookings Institution, announces its second annual Economic Policy Innovation Prize competition. $25,000 in prizes will be awarded for the best innovative policy proposals written by undergraduate and graduate students. The top undergraduate student proposal will be awarded $10,000 and the top graduate student proposal will be awarded $15,000. The application deadline is August 1, 2008.
