- NEW SEXUALITY AND POLITICS ORGANIZED SECTION
At its spring 2007 meeting, the APSA Council approved the creation of a new
Organized Section on Sexuality and Politics. The section invites those interested in this growing field of research and teaching to join. The section dues are only $7.00 annually.
The new Section will hold an organizing meeting at the APSA annual conference in Chicago followed by a celebration reception. At the meeting officers will be elected
according to the by-laws from the new membership. In the next few weeks, the Section will circulate its first newsletter outlining this process and requesting nominations.
The Sexuality and Politics Section aims to:
- foster the study of sexuality and politics within the discipline of political science
- encourage rigorous but respectful research in the area of sexuality and politics
- promote, where appropriate, the interests of political scientists researching sexuality and politics within a larger interdisciplinary and political community.
The Sexuality and Politics Section aims to bring together scholars working in a variety of areas within political science to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and to foster intellectual community and expertise within the APSA. There is a growing body of scholarship within the discipline of political science that addresses the issue of sexuality within a variety of subfields including public policy; local, state and national
governance; international relations, elections, public administration and political theory.
The proposed Section will bring these scholars together and provide synergy for this research across the APSA. More on the Sexuality and Politics and other Organized Sections, see www.apsanet.org/section_178.cfm.

- 2007-2008 DIRECTORY OF POLITICAL SCIENCE FACULTY AND PROGRAMS JUST RELEASED
APSA is pleased to release its 2007-2008 Directory of Political Science Faculty and Programs. The directory lists over 1300 undergraduate and graduate departments of political science and related specialized fields in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. This is the most comprehensive directory to-date for the Association, with nearly 13,000 individual faculty listed. It provides departmental mailing addresses and contact information, along with an indication of the highest degree offered and availability of a Pi Sigma Alpha chapter. Contact information, fields of interest, and educational background are provided for most faculty.
This is a great reference tool for locating colleagues and identifying comparable departments. Faculty members can be easily located using an alphabetical indix that identifies their institution.
Undergraduate students interested in pursuing graduate studies will find it helpful with locating programs and faculty that match their interests. High school students and their teachers and counselors will find the directory useful for identifying programs offering undergraduate degrees.

- SCHOLAR SUPPORT
- BE A MENTOR - FIND A MENTOR
The APSA mentoring initiative is an opportunity for all political scientists to connect to share experience and insights about career planning, scholarship, and professional issues.
Become a Mentor
Mentors can volunteer to act as a resource for colleagues in specific areas of interest such as how to publish, how to launch a research career, how to manage career conflicts, or even how to plan for retirement. Mentors can also volunteer to be a resource for specific communities of scholars, such as groups historically underrepresented in the discipline. Or mentors may volunteer to serve as a general resource for any inquiry.
Please visit the "Become an APSA Mentor" page and review the mentoring initiative process. Be sure to complete the mentor profile to become an APSA Mentor. Once you are listed with us as a mentor, we will, from time to time, provide your name (along with others) to those seeking a mentor with your qualifications. It will then be up to the mentee to contact you directly to begin the conversation.
Find a Mentor
Graduate students, young scholars and teachers, minorities and women, senior faculty confronting retirement, or any colleagues in the discipline may wish to contact mentor. When you request a mentor, you will be provided with a list of contacts in the field who have expressed willingness to serve as a mentor regarding the issues you specify. You may then select from this list the individual you would like to contact, and should then directly initiate contact. Visit the "Find an APSA Mentor" page to learn more.

- IDENTIFY TALENTED MINORITY GRADUATE SCHOOL CANDIDATES
Help APSA identify talented undergraduate minorities interested in
being recruited to doctoral programs. APSA established the
Minority Student Recruitment Project (MSRP) as part of its efforts to
diversify the political science profession. Faculty members in
undergraduate programs are encouraged to contact minority students
about careers in political science and then submit the names of
promising minority candidates for graduate study to the MSRP database.
Core Schools -- graduate programs participating in the MSRP Project --
actively recruit students identified in the MSRP database. The program
complements the important efforts already made through the Ralph Bunche
Summer Institute and Minority Fellows Program. For more information
please visit www.apsanet.org/section_428.cfm.

- DO YOU USE JSTOR?
The JSTOR scholarly journal archive contains significant resources for political science scholars. Most universities and colleges provide access to the JSTOR collections, which include 42 political science journals.
APSA offers a discounted individual subscription ($25) to APSA members who don't have institutional access. APSA JSTOR subscribers can access the archive of all three of APSA's journals and the journals of the Midwest Political Science Association, the American Academy of Political and Social Science, and the American Society for International Law. We are working to add access to additional political science and other journals.
At the recent JSTOR Partricipating Publishers conference, we learned about several JSTOR innovations that you might find useful -- forward linking, reference linking, and search term highlighting. Forward linking allows users to follow links directly from a reference citation to view the cited article in JSTOR. Reference linking allows a viewer of a particular article to link to a search in JSTOR or Google Scholar for articles by the same author, the list of references for an article, articles in JSTOR or Google Scholar that cite the current article, and related articles in Google Scholar. JSTOR's new search term highlighting feature highlights all of the search terms found within the text so they can be more easily seen.
If you don't have JSTOR, you can get it now. Just log into your myAPSA account and look for "Apply for JSTOR" in the Membership and Additional Services area.
