  1. APSA ANNUAL MEETING
    1. Proposal Notifications
      APSA is now sending Annual Meeting proposal notifications via email to all submitters and, due to the high volume, expects to deliver them over the next several days. If you submitted multiple proposals, you may not receive notifications for all simultaneously. You can check the status of your proposal now by logging in to MyAPSA. Contact the Annual Meeting staff if you have any questions.

    2. Panel and Roundtable Revisions
      If your proposal was accepted, you may find information on your presentation that you wish to change. Log into MyAPSA to update your contact information or institution affiliation online "Change Your Personal Information." To request an edit to your presentation details (e.g. paper title), contact the Division Chair or Related Group Organizer sponsoring your panel (roster of division chairs and related group chairs). NOTE: All revisions to your presentation must be approved by the Division or Related Group chair before they are added to the conference program.

    3. Preregistration and Housing Open
      Attendees can now preregistration and reserve hotel rooms for the 2008 Annual Meeting. APSA requires all accepted participants to preregister for the meeting by April 25 in order to remain on the program. To preregister, log in to MyAPSA and follow the steps for registration.     4. APSA Introduces Carbon Offset Program
      APSA is partnering with Carbonfund.org as part of the association's efforts to become a more environmentally responsible organization. In order to make the Annual Meeting more environmentally friendly, APSA is offering attendees the option of offsetting their carbon footprint for attending the Annual Meeting by donating shares to CarbonFund.org.     5. Hosting Business Meetings and Receptions
      Departments, organized sections, and related groups are invited to host a business meeting or reception during the 2008 Annual Meeting. Request forms are available online and scheduling is done on a first-come, first-served basis. To be included in the Preliminary Program, forms must be received by April 11.

    6. Short Course Applications Deadline Passed
      The deadline for short course applications has passed, however, space may still be available. Please contact Desirée Abeleda for more information. If you would like to register for a short course, contact the short course organizer directly. Details can be found online on the Short Course page, which will be continually updated in the months leading up the Annual Meeting.

    8. Sponsor or Coordinate an Annual Meeting Working Group
      Annual Meeting Working Groups consist of small groups of scholars who convene throughout the duration of the conference to discuss a common topic. Working Groups draw on the rich content of the Annual Meeting to allow small groups to interact intensively and on a sustained basis on a common set of themes; and, thus they can enrich member participation by creating a community and networking experience. Would you like to sponsor or coordinate a Working Group? Please contact James Zarsadiaz to find out what you need to do to establish a Working Group.     9. Travel Grant Applications Now Open
      APSA is now collecting travel grant applications for the 2008 Annual Meeting. Grants to provide travel assistance to U.S. graduate students, international graduate students studying in the U.S., unemployed APSA members, and international scholars. To be eligible, applicants must be current APSA members and pre-registered for the Annual Meeting. More information about the travel grants application can be found at www.apsanet.org/section_542.cfm

  2. APSA PROGRAMS AND GOVERNANCE NEWS
    1. 2008 Nominating Committee Slate
      The 2007-2008 Nominating Committee submits the following slate of elective Officers. Detailed biographical information about the nominees will be available on the APSA website and in the July PS: Political Science and Politics. Unless there is a contest for any elected office or offices, elective officers assume office following action at the Business Meeting on Saturday, September 1, at the Association's Annual Meeting in Boston. If there is a contest, an election will be held by ballot of the entire membership. Procedures for nominations are set down in Article V (1, 2) of the APSA Constitution and Section 4 of the Business Meeting Rules.

    2. Review Business Rules
      The APSA Council Rules committee publishes the Business Meeting Rules annually for comment by members before final approval by Council later in the spring. The rules offer procedural direction for the handling of any proposed resolutions, amendments, and officer nominations, and for the conduct of the business meeting and elections. You can review the rules at www.apsanet.org/content_2929.cfm and send comments or suggested changes to the Council's attention care of Hayle Ziobro at hziobro@apsanet.org. Proposed revisions will be posted at the same web address and noted in subsequent newsletters. The final rules approved by the Council will be posted April 1.

    3. Congressional Fellowship Program Partners with Health and Aging Policy Fellows
      The APSA Congressional Fellowship Program and the Health and Aging Policy Fellows have joined to create a cadre of professional leaders who will serve as positive change agents in health and aging policy, helping to shape a healthy and productive future for older Americans. It is open to physicians, nurses, and social workers at all career stages with demonstrated commitment to health and aging issues and a desire to be involved in health policy at the federal, state or local level.     4. Rowman and Littlefield Award: Nomination Deadline April 1
      Rowman and LittlefieldNominations for the 2008 Rowman and Littlefield Award will be accepted until April 1, 2008. The Rowman and Littlefield Award recognizes political scientists who have developed effective new approaches to teaching in the discipline. The award seeks to honor a wide range of new directions in teaching, not any one particular new direction. The only limits on what will be recognized are the imagination and creativity of those teaching political science. More

    5. APSA Campus Teaching Awards Nominations
      Each year, APSA and Pi Sigma Alpha recognize political science faculty who received teaching awards on their own campuses during the past academic year. These faculty receive a certificate honoring their achievement and they are invited to a special reception at the APSA Annual Meeting. A roster of campus-wide teaching award winners, their affiliations, and titles of their awards is featured in the Annual Meeting Program. In addition, a tribute to the teaching award recipients, including their photographs and descriptions of their awards, is published in the October issue of PS: Political Science and Politics. The deadline to submit names of award recipients is July 1, 2008.

    6. Nominations Sought for the Frank J. Goodnow Award
      The APSA Development Committee is soliciting nominations for the 2008 Goodnow Award, to be presented at the Annual Meeting in Boston. The Goodnow Award recognizes distinguished service to the profession and the Association, not necessarily a career of scholarship. This service may be by individuals, groups, and public and private organizations who have played a role in the development of the political science profession and the building of APSA.     7. March Issue of Perspectives on Politics Online Now
      The March 2008 issue of Perspectives on Politics is online now. This month's issue features Robert Axelrod's Presidential Address entitled "Political Science and Beyond", which he delivered at the 2007 APSA Annual Meeting in Chicago. APSA members view this issue of Perspectives as well as other APSA journals by logging into your MyAPSA account and scroll to Access Areas. Non-members review abstracts without charge and get full text for a fee at Cambridge Journals Online.       The Women's Caucus for Political Science has introduced a new Website at www.apsanet.org/~wcps. The Women's Caucus for Political Science is a non-profit organization that seeks to improve the status of women in the profession of political science by promoting equal opportunity for women political scientists in employment, promotion and tenure decisions, as well as graduate school admissions and financial aid decisions.     4. COSSA Update on Federal Funding
      On March 10, COSSA released an overview of the federal government's proposed FY 2009 allocation of funds for research and development in the social and behavioral sciences in its report COSSA Washington Update: Proposed FY 2009 Budgets for Social and Behavioral Science. The Consortium of Social Science Associations (COSSA) is an advocacy organization that promotes attention to and federal funding for the social and behavioral sciences. More.

    5. H-Net: Humanities and Social Sciences Online H-Citizenship
      There's a new member of H-Net: Humanities and Social Sciences Online--H-Citizenship at www.h-net.org/~citizen. H-Citizenship is a new network promoting interdisciplinary research and intellectual exchange about citizenship within a global community of scholars, students, and political, community, and business leaders; and the general public. Moving toward these ends, H-Citizenship will foster the study of citizenship as an interdisciplinary academic field and establish a forum to stimulate and shape public discourse about citizenship; it is sponsored by the Center for the Study of Citizenship. APSA Headquarters and Centennial Center building The Centennial Center for Political Science and Public Affairs is a great resource for doing research in Washington, DC. It offers visiting scholars a furnished work space, telephone, fax, computers, Internet access, conference space, a reference library, and access to George Washington University’s Gelman Library. Stays range from a few days to 12 months. Space is limited to APSA members and available to faculty members, post-doctoral fellows, and advanced graduate students from the U.S. and abroad.
