- Council Decision on Meeting Siting Policy and 2012 Annual Meeting
The APSA Council met in special session on June 26, 2008, to consider site selection policy for the Annual Meeting. Background materials, the Council Committee report, and further details about Council decisions broadening APSA's meeting siting policy will be available and posted on the APSA website within the next week. The Council voted to take state policies into account along with city practices, to have greater public and scholarly engagement with localities where APSA meets, and to continue with the 2012 meeting in New Orleans. In articulating new policy for siting APSA meetings, the Council addressed the difficulties posed by state laws restricting rights afforded to recognized same-sex unions. APSA will notify members when these materials are available. A letter from APSA President Dianne Pinderhughes and the June 27 press release issued after the Council Meeting are available online.

- APSA Requests Comment on Allocating Credit in Collaborative Research
In early 2006, the APSA Council authorized an ad hoc committee, the Working Group on Collaboration, to study patterns of collaborative research in the discipline and to explore what ethical and procedural issues follow from collaborative scholarship. To share their findings with the public, the committee published the "Report of the APSA Working Group on Collaboration" and held a roundtable discussion (for a recap, see "Allocating the Credit in Collaborative Research") at the 2007 APSA Annual Meeting that was sponsored by the APSA Ethics Committee. The discussion, published in the January 2008 issue of PS, brought attention to the assumption that the social sciences were relative newcomers to collaborative research and had no clearly established norms which equitably allocated credit for relative contributions. This is a particular problem when the multiple authors occupy very different levels of academic seniority as in the case of junior and senior faculty members, graduate assistants, or even adjunct faculty. In addition, the Working Group established the Collaborative Research Message Board for public comments on the report and would like everyone with a view on this issue to share their opinions.

- 2008 NCAPSA Annual Meeting Highlights; Dr. Sigelman Receives Award
On July 9th, the National Capital-Area Political Science Association held its annual meeting at the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill. This year’s discussion theme was “Did the 2008 Presidential Nomination Process Work?” which was moderated by Michael Goldstein (UC Berkeley, Washington Center) and led by Rep. David Price, co-chair of the Democratic Party's Commission on Presidential Selection. David Balducchi (Department of Labour), a current council member, was elected the 2008-09 president, and Dr. Howard Silver (Consortium of Social Science Associations) was applauded for his services as 2007-08 president of NCAPSA.
Another highlight of the NCAPSA Annual Meeting was the presentation of the 2008 Walter Beach Pi Sigma Alpha Award to Dr. Lee Sigelman. The award recognizes a political scientist who has made "a substantial contribution to strengthen the relationship between political science and public service." Dr. Sigelman, Columbian Professor of Political Science at George Washington University, has accomplished just that. As a distinguished scholar, teacher, and renown editor, Dr. Sigelman was recognized for his achievements in "amplifying the capacity of scholars to speak to each other and to the public; heightening trust among colleagues; and making everyone and every institution with which he has worked much better."
