Department Sponsored Student Membership For Master and First- and Second-Year Ph.D. Students

Through the department sponsored membership program,  departments can subsidize a year of APSA membership for their Master and first- or second-year Ph.D. students. The cost for providing complimentary membership to these students is shared equally by APSA and the sponsoring department. A department may sponsor as many students as they wish to fund.

Extending a complimentary year of membership to graduate students can help orient  them in their chosen profession while familiarizing them with APSA's various offerings at no risk to them. It is also intended to contribute to the larger APSA goal of enhancing programs and services for graduate students. Services currently provided to graduate students include:

• Reduced membership dues
• Dissertation awards
• Minority identification and fellowship programs
• Placement reports
• Open invitation to submit articles for all of APSA publications and paper proposals for the Annual Meeting and Teaching and Learning Conference
• The Graduate Student Connection, online resource
• Travel grants to the Annual Meeting
• Access to eJobs/eJobs Placement Interview Service
• Articles in PS: Political Science and Politics of particular interest to graduate students
• Special APSA programs, like the Coalition on the Academic Workforce, and the Preparing Future Faculty Program
• Networking opportunities like the Graduate Student and First-Time Attendees receptions at the Annual Meeting

Due to the continuing and widespread support of APSA members, student membership has always been subsidized by the professional members of the Association. Departments can  help us continue this tradition and increase the number of graduate student able to enjoy the benefits of APSA membership.
