American Economic Association http://www.vanderbilt.edu/AEA/ Organized in 1885, the AEA now consists of approximately 22,000 economists and 5,500 institutions. Over 50% of the membership is associated with academic institutions, 35% with business and industry and the remainder largely with federal, state, and local government agencies.
The Association's aims include: 1) The encouragement of economic research, especially the historical and statistical study of the actual conditions of industrial life; 2) The issue of publications on economic subjects; and 3) The encouragement of perfect freedom of economic discussion, including an Annual Meeting. The Association as such will take no partisan attitude, nor will it commit its members to any position on practical economic questions.
