Louisiana Political Science Association
Printer-friendly format

The Louisiana Political Science Association is the state association of political scientists in Louisiana. It was founded in 1972. Its main function has been to hold annual meetings which give political scientists across the state the chance to present current research and afford graduate and undergraduate students for a to sharpen their research and writing skills. Every two or three years the LPSA jointly presents a meeting with the Mississippi Political Science Association.

In 1982, the LPSA sponsored the writing of a book edited by James Bolner titled Louisiana: Festival in a Political Labryinth, describing past and present politics in the state. Regrettably, this book has gone out of print. The LPSA is a contributing institution to the journal Politics and Policy. As such, an LPSA member serves as an associate editor and other members serve on the editorial board.

Annual membership dues in recent years have varied from $5-10 with discounts for students. Membership includes the attendance fee for that year's annual meeting. The fee usually is determined at the beginning of the calendar year by the Vice President who also serves as Program Chairman, and is included in the Call for Papers for that year's meeting.
