The goal of the new Migration and Citizenship Group is to bring together political scientists working on issues of migration and citizenship, promote teaching and research in the field, and encourage communication among political scientists and scholars of migration and citizenship in related disciplines.

We seek proposals for the 2012 annual meeting on a wide range of topics related to the study of migration and citizenship.  Proposals can address topics such as the politics of migration, immigration policies and laws, border and security studies, immigrant integration policies and their implementation, settlement patterns, political incorporation and “citizen-making,” and the changing meanings and practices of citizenship, including the relationship between citizenship and rights, gender, multiculturalism, indigenous peoples, empires, civic engagement, transnationality, statelessness, welfare and public policy.  We also welcome studies that explore these topics in a variety of settings (including global, national, sub-national, regional, local, etc.), using a variety of approaches (from single-country or single-city to comparative or theoretical studies), and drawing on a variety of methodologies and methods.

We also would like to hear from those who plan to attend APSA 2012, but who are not submitting papers on this topic and who would like to be involved as session chair or discussant.
