APSA Awards for Graduate Students

Graduate students may apply for the following awards from APSA, APSA organized section, and other non APSA political science and related organizations.

APSA Organized Section Awards

  • Law and Courts (Section 2)
    Best Graduate Student Paper Award
    [award details] 
    This award is given annually for the best paper on law and courts written by a graduate student. To be eligible the nominated paper must have been written by a full-time graduate student. Single- and co-authored papers are eligible. In the case of co-authored papers, each author must have been a full-time graduate student at the time the paper was written. Papers may have been written for any purpose (e.g., seminars, scholarly meetings, potential publication in scholarly journals). This is not a thesis or dissertation competition. Papers may be nominated by faculty members or by the students themselves. The papers must have been written during the twelve months previous to the nomination deadline. The award carries a cash prize of $200.
  • Presidency Research (Section 9)
    Founders Award
    [award details] 
    The Founders Award named in honor of David Neveh will be given for the best paper presented by a graduate student either the preceding year's APSA annual meeting or at any of the regional meetings in 2008-2009.  
  • Urban Politics (Section 13)
    Byran Jackson Dissertation In Ethnic and Racial Politics Research Support Award [award details]
    This award is given to a graduate student studying racial and ethnic politics in an urban setting.
  • State Politics and Policy (Section 22)
    Best Graduate Paper Award Best Graduate Paper Award [award details] This award is for the best paper on state politics and policy presented by a Graduate Student at the previous year's APSA Annual Meeting. 
  • Political Communication (Section 23)
    Best Paper by a Graduate Student Award [award details] 
    This award is for the best paper on political communication presented by a Graduate Student at the previous year's APSA Annual Meeting. 
  • Foreign Policy (Section 31)
    Best Graduate Student Paper
    [award details]
    Panel chairs from any division are invited to nominate outstanding graduate student papers presented at the previous year's APSA annual meeting that are relevant to the study of foreign policy.  
  • Elections, Public Opinion, and Voting Behavior (Section 32)
    Sullivan Award for the Best Graduate Student [award details] 
    The Sullivan Award for the Best Graduate Student paper is given for the best paper delivered at the previous year's APSA Annual Meeting.
