43: International History and Politics
Risa Brooks, Northwestern University, r-brooks3@northwestern.edu
The 2010 Annual Meeting conference theme stresses the challenges and opportunities for states and citizens that originate in periods of crisis. Indeed, the meetings provide a time for scholars to take stock and reflect on the extant state of knowledge in political science and how our understanding of prior crises can illuminate the current global situation. The International History and Politics section is well positioned to contribute to this debate and discussion. Bringing history to bear on contemporary problems is central to the section’s concerns. Participants, in this vein, are especially encouraged to submit proposals that seek to apply historical insight to the current crises plaguing states, societies and international system. More broadly, we invite papers, panels and roundtables that address important research questions from within a variety of sub-fields. This includes studies encompassing issues related to international security, political economy, international organization, diplomatic history, political psychology and beyond. The section will favor efforts to provide empirically rich analyses and papers that develop provocative theoretical insights, while representing the diversity of approaches, perspectives and methodologies employed in political science.
