Association for Israel Studies Elections in Israel, 2009: Continuity or Change

For the upcoming APSA annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., September 2-5, 2010, I am assigned to put together a panel organized by the Association for Israel Studies (AIS).
I decided to call for papers on the theme of “Citizens, Borders and National Identities”.
What kinds of challenges arise when mass migration coupled with internal changes affects the internal balance within the society? Does political violence increase? Do social movements multiply and are they tied to economic issues or status concerns? Are racial, ethnic, religious, class, or gender cleavages heightened?

Interested scholars should send a title and short abstract (100-150 words) until December 10, 2009 to Prof. Menachem Hofnung, at <msmh@huji.ac.il>
