The Asian Pacific American Caucus welcomes proposals for papers on questions related to the engagement and role of Asian Pacific Americans in both transnational and domestic politics. In accordance with this year’s theme "Representation and Renewal," we particularly encourage proposals for papers that examine questions about representation as it relates to Asian Pacific Americans.

Some questions of interest include: In countries with diverse populations, what models of representation for Asian Pacific Americans exist? What are the processes by which representation of Asian Pacific Americans emerges (or is undermined) and what are the outcomes that result? Do the ascriptive characteristics of Asian Pacific Americans affect the kinds of policies they advocate or the decisions that institutions including (or excluding) Asian Pacific Americans create? How do movements for greater representation of Asian Pacific Americans engage the populace, make claims on power, and relate to larger movements for civil rights, citizenship, or human rights? With Asian Pacific American movements, what complementarities and tensions exist between the multiple ethnic subgroups, or groups defined by other ascriptive characteristics? When Asian Pacific Americans are smaller in number relative to other minority groups, what sources of power can they generate to have their views represented?
