Joanna Vecchiarelli Scott
APSA Nominee Biography

Printer-friendly format

Joanna Vecchiarelli Scott is a Political Theorist, educated at Barnard College, Columbia University and the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow UK.  Her published work includes Hannah Arendt: Love and Saint Augustine and articles in New German Critique and the European Journal of Political Theory. She is currently on the editorial board of Perspectives on Politics.  Scott has served on the APSA Nominations Committee, where she was pleased to recommend the first two consecutive women APSA Presidents, Theda Skocpol and Susanne Rudolph. She is past president (2006) of the Women's Caucus for Political Science and currently serves on the Standing Committee on the Status of Women.  As one of the very few representatives from BA/MA institutions to have served on Council, as Vice President she hopes to further advocate for the professional needs of her colleagues at institutions such as Eastern Michigan University, where she served as Dept. Head for 5 years, and for issues of gender, race and sexual identity in the profession.
