You are cordially invited to join a select group of professionals who are keenly interested in the critical issue of diversity and equity in higher education. An important and timely seminar, “Diversity Without Preferences: Is it Possible?” will take place on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from 1:00-3:00 pm on the 1B floor conference room at the NCHE building, located at 1 DuPont Circle in Washington, D.C.

The seminar will be attended by attorneys, public policy professionals, admissions officers, Diversity professionals, association leaders, college professors, the education media and technology experts. Also in attendance will be those who have staked out strong positions on both sides of the contentious issues surrounding equitable access to the nation’s highly selective colleges and universities.

Panelist will include President and General Counsel of the Center for Equal Opportunity and anti-preferences activist, Roger Clegg, Esq., Inventor of Application Quest Software and distinguished professor of Computer Science at Auburn University, Dr. Juan Gilbert, Executive Director of the American Association of Affirmative Action, Shirley Wilcher, Esq., and noted education journalist, Reginald Stuart. Invited panelist include, Jennifer Gratz, lead plaintiff in the landmark  Gratz vs. Michigan, Ted Shaw, former Executive Director of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and Columbia Law Professor, Joyce Smith, Executive Director of the National Association for College Admission Counseling and  Dr. William Harvey, Senior Vice president for Diversity at the University of Virginia and president of the National Organization of Chief Diversity Officers.

The much talked about demographic shift is now on the immediate horizon and its impact on higher education and the nation will be profound. This seminar will serve as a forum for a civil dialogue and assessment of where the diversity issue now stands and where it is likely to be headed.
