"The State of Inter-Branch Relations at the End of the Bush Presidency"
Congress & the Presidency:  A Journal of Capitol Studies

Guest Editors:  Vincent G. Moscardelli, University of Connecticut and James A. Thurber, American University.

In a forthcoming volume in 2009, Congress & the Presidency will publish a special issue dedicated to exploring the state of inter-branch relations at the end of the presidency of George W. Bush.  The journal invites manuscripts from political scientists and historians utilizing a wide range of theoretical and methodological perspectives.

Manuscripts should address any aspect of inter-branch relations in the national government.  Papers addressing traditional topics, including oversight, nominations and confirmations, War Powers, and presidential success in Congress are encouraged, as are papers on dimensions of inter-branch relations that have traditionally received less attention from political scientists and historians such as the relationship between the courts and Congress and the nature of presidential leadership.  Manuscripts that place the Bush presidency in historical context and those that focus on the policy implications of changes in inter-branch relations are particularly welcome.

The deadline for paper submissions is January 5, 2009. All manuscripts received by this deadline will be reviewed.  All submissions will undergo our double-blind, peer-reviewed process, and will also benefit from the regular editorial reviews by co-Editors Brian Schaffner and Charles Walcott, in concert with the guest editors.  Manuscripts should be no longer than 40 pages (including tables, figures, and references), double spaced.  Additional submission guidelines are available on the journal’s website at http://spa.american.edu/ccps/candp.

Congress & the Presidency: A Journal of Capital Studies is an interdisciplinary journal of political science and history published by the American University Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies.  Congress & the Presidency features articles on Congress, the president, the interaction between the two institutions, and national policymaking.

Questions about submissions should be directed to the journal office at candp@american.edu.
