Article I. Name and Purpose of Section

Section 1. The name of the section is the European Politics and Society Section of the American Political Science Association.

Section 2. The purpose of the Section is to promote interest in teaching and research in all aspects of European politics and society at all levels of governance.

Section 3. The Section encourages communication between Europeanists within the APSA by publishing a newsletter and maintaining a list server for all dues paying members.

Article II. Membership and Dues

Members of the group shall consist of persons with an interest in research and teaching in the areas of European integration, politics and society, who pay annual dues. Dues are determined by the annual business meeting at the recommendation of the Executive Committee. Dues are paid in conjunction with membership of the APSA.

Article III. Officers and Governance

Section 1. The Section will be governed by a Steering Committee elected at the annual business meeting of the Section and an Executive Committee consisting of the Chair and two Vice-Chairs. The Steering Committee consists of nine members elected for three-year terms. At least three new members shall be elected each year; one of whom will be elected as Vice-Chair.

Section 2. The Executive Officers serve as Vice-chair in their first year, Chair-elect in their second year and Chair in their third year.

Section 3. The Chair is responsible for implementing and coordinating the activities of the Section. The Vice-Chair and Chair-elect shall assist the Chair and will preside in the absence of the Chair. The Chair shall consult the Steering Committee and may delegate activities to the members of the Steering Committee as deemed suitable.

Section 4. The Steering Committee shall appoint the Newsletter Editor and Annual Meeting Program Chair. If not already a member of the Steering Committee, the Newsletter Editor and the Program Chair serve as ex officio members of the Steering Committee for the duration of their appointment.

Article IV. Nomination and Election of Officers

Nominations and elections for the Executive Committee will be conducted at the annual business meeting under the following procedures:

Section 1: The Executive Committee shall solicit nominations of new officers from members by April 1 and propose a list of candidates to the Section. The Executive Committee shall seek to represent different fields—including but not limited to European integration, East and West Europe—in its own membership. The proposed slate of new officers shall be made public to the Section's members prior to the annual business meeting.

Section 2. Officers are elected by a majority vote of all members attending the annual business meeting.

Section 3. The Executive Committee will fill all vacancies in its own membership until the next regularly scheduled election.

Article V. Amendments

The annual business meeting shall have the power to modify, amend, or alter the bylaws of Section by a majority vote.
