The conference will include general sessions, for which panel and paper proposals are welcome from any of the disciplinary areas of cultural studies, history, economics, political science, sociology, anthropology, law, literature, geography and natural resources, refugee studies, development studies, peace studies, as well as cross-disciplinary area studies contributions.
A number of special sessions will analyse the significance of the revolution of 1958 and its impact on state and society in Iraq. Paper proposals addressing the following themes are particularly welcome:
• Collective action, the pre-revolutionary opposition movements and the events of 14th July: a popular revolution or a military coup?
• Iraqi political and social movements and the legacy of 1958
• The impact of 1958 on the Iraqi state
• The impact of 1958 on Iraqi society
• Do the events of 1958 matter to Iraqis today?
The deadline for receipt of proposals is Friday 14 March 2008.
