MERLIEN will hold the 1st International Seminar on Computer-Aided Qualitative Research on the 10 & 11 June, 2008 in Amsterdam. This unique, cross-disciplinary and highly interactive seminar will bring together researchers, practitioners and PhD students to discuss the key issues concerning the use of QDA tools (e.g. Atlas.ti & Nud*ist/NVivo) and how they integrate them successfully into their research projects.

GOALS
-To help participants develop a deeper understanding on the use of QDA tools and how they are used to improve qualitative data analysis.
-To raise conceptual awareness and skill development using QDA tools.
-To improve the presentation skill and style of participants.
-To create and develop continuing supportive research networks

SEMINAR FORMAT
After registration, participants will be invited to submit an abstract for a presentation (optional). The presentation should directly address how you have (or planning to) used QDA tools for conducting data analysis. The presentation should also discuss the benefits and pitfalls of QDA tools and what your peers from other fields can learn from your experience. Each presentation is allocated 30 minutes including 5 to 10 minutes of Q&A.

JURY PANEL
To enhance the quality of this seminar, experts in qualitative research and QDA tools will be invited to evaluate your presentation. They will critique, comment and give impartial suggestions for further improvement of your research work. Our highly qualified jury panel consist of: Susanne Friese, QDA Expert, University of Hannover (Germany) Brit Helle Aarskog, Associate Professor, University of Bergen (Norway) Raewyn Bassett, Professor, Dalhousie University (Canada) Brigitte Smit(tbc), Professor, University of Johannesburg (South Africa)

SPEAKER EVALUATION
To help you improve your presentation skills and style, all speakers will be evaluated by their peers during the seminar. The results of the speaker evaluation will be sent to you one week after the seminar.
