H N Hirsch is professor of politics at Oberlin College, where he has also served as dean of the faculty of arts and sciences. He has held faculty appointments at Harvard, the University of California, San Diego, where he served as department chair, and at Macalester College, where he held an endowed chair. He has published two monographs in the field of public law, and most recently an edited volume, The Future of Gay Rights in America (2005), as well as several articles exploring political attitudes in sexual minority communities. He has held fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Mellon Foundation, and his dissertation at Princeton won the APSA’s Edward S. Corwin Prize. He has also chaired the APSA’s GLBT Status Committee.
