Fund for Latino Scholarship
Printer-friendly format

APSA has received an offer from an anonymous donor to match up to $5,000 in gifts from first-time donors to the Fund for Latino. Since this offer was made, the Fund has received about $4,000 in qualifying donations, which means that almost $1,000 has yet to be matched. To ensure the fund receives the full $5,000 match, we would like to encourage those of you who have not yet donated to make a contribution.

The Sector Latino de Ciencia Politica (Latino Political Science Caucus) and the APSA Committee on the Status of Latinos/as in the Profession are sponsoring a special endowment. Income from the endowment is used to enhance the recruitment, retention, and promotion of Latino political scientists.

While Latinos now comprise nearly 14% of the U.S. population, barely 2.1% of the nation's political scientists are Latinos and Latinas. To reach proportionality by 2009, we would need to bring new Latino/a Ph.Ds into the profession at the rate of more than 150 per year.

The scholarship fund will award grants to initiatives that 1) identify promising Latino undergraduates and encourage them to enter the profession of political science; 2) provide professional opportunities and financial assistance to Latino graduate study.contribute now
