The Elliott School of International Affairs Visiting Scholars

George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs welcomes applications for visiting scholars at the pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, or senior scholar level for short or long stays at any of our six research centers and institutes. Visiting scholars are able to draw on the many assets of The George Washington University as well as Washington, DC. These include the Library of Congress, the National Archives, and the National Security Archives; numerous academic, governmental, and private institutional collections; U.S. government agencies; and international institutions, such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
Our centers and institutes include:
Center for International Science and Technology Policy (CISTP): CISTP is a world leader in international public policy research and education in science, technology, and innovation. CISTP also houses the Space Policy Institute (SPI), which concentrates its research and instruction on issues related to the U.S. and global space programs.

Institute for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (IERES): IERES works on issues concerning the history, politics, economics, culture, and security of countries in Europe and Eurasia. The Institute promotes the analysis of current issues while also providing appropriate historical context. IERES is home to the GW Cold War Group and the Project on History, Memory and the Politics of the Past.

Institute for Global and International Studies (IGIS): The mission of IGIS is to foster intellectual exchange and collaborative research on international and global studies, including international organizations and law, trade regimes, international development, international security, U.S. foreign policy, global governance, and the links between them.

Institute for International Economic Policy (IIEP): IIEP serves as a catalyst for high quality, multi-disciplinary, and non-partisan research on policy issues surrounding economic globalization. The institute takes full advantage of GW?s unique location near the world epicenter of international economic policy to develop effective policy options and academic analysis in a time of growing controversies about international economic integration in many countries around the world. Affiliated faculty have appointments in the departments of economics, history, and political science as well as the law and business schools.

Institute for Middle East Studies (IMES): IMES is dedicated to the interdisciplinary research and study of the modern Middle East, and all of its multi-faceted issues. The Institute focuses geographically on the Arab world, Turkey, Israel and Iran, and temporally on the modern period. It draws together faculty in the social sciences, humanities, and relevant professional schools. As part of IMES?s goals to foster research, dialogue and the creation of an intellectual community, the institute supports faculty in all disciplines.

Sigur Center for Asian Studies: The Sigur Center aims to increase the quality and broaden the scope of scholarly research on Asian affairs, promote scholarly interaction between the U.S. and Asia, provide a major center for policy discussion and outreach, and prepare a new generation of students, scholars, analysts, and policymakers to understand the rapidly expanding role of Asia in world affairs.
