The Bill Lane Center for the Study of the North American West at Stanford University is dedicated to exploring the West's past, present, and future. The Center invites students of all ages, scholars from many disciplines, journalists from any media, and leaders from diverse realms to join their efforts to better understand the West's distinctive regional identity and to enrich its social, economic, environmental, political, and cultural vitality.
They are promoting new research and writing on the West – both inside and outside academia -- by co-sponsoring the Risser Prize for Western Environmental Journalism, the Western Enterprise Reporting Fellowship, and Visiting Fellowships in Western Politics and Governance.
